The Colorado River Schools Field House, a multipurpose athletic building that will house Mohave and RVHS sports and potentially other events, will be built west of the Bullhead City Target store, north of a future Bullhead Parkway extension and second Laughlin bridge. Ross said that plans are for access roads to the field house to be built in conjunction with the Parkway extension to a future bridge to Laughlin, which would save both the school district and the city government money.
Features from the fieldhouse, shown in last week’s renderings, include an indoor soccer/football field with synthetic turf, up to 5,000 permanent seats, two permanent home locker rooms, eight smaller locker rooms for tournaments, two dedicated technology classrooms and a large commercial culinary kitchen.
Construction should start soon on the Colorado River Union High School District’s field house, Supt. Riley Frei told governing board members Tuesday evening. He said that an Oct. 25 groundbreaking ceremony continues to generate buzz for the district. “I would anticipate seeing some dirt turning soon,” Frei said. The field house, the future home of the Mohave and River Valley high school football and soccer teams and other events, was approved by district voters in November as part of a $35 million bond issue, which also included capital improvements on both campuses.
Frei’s report to the board also included updates on work at the campuses. The old latex track at Mohave has been removed, he said, and will be replaced by a synthetic surface, which has been delivered to the campus. The surface of the track will be red, which caused chuckles and groans from audience members affiliated with Mohave and RVHS, respectively. Frei explained that the red surface won’t absorb as much heat as the previous black surface did. He said it will include black, green and gold lettering, marking it with the Mohave brand. Work on sand volleyball courts will begin after the track is installed, he said.
At River Valley, Frei said, block walls are going up around the CTE building, and work is underway at athletic venues. Improvements at RVHS will include renovation of the existing library/network room into a new media technology center/internet cafe, renovation and expansion of the weight room, an exterior paint refresh and construction of a new synthetic-surface track.
